GlobeFunder: new microloan marketplace

Following in the footsteps of the media-darling Kiva and the Omidyar-backed Prosper, new online microloan marketplace GlobeFunder has raised $1.5 million in seed capital. Trying to combine the scale and for-profit approach of Prosper with the international pro-development focus of Kiva, GlobeFunder will launch its US lending service in October, with international operations opening soon after that. So far their site is silent, and little is known about the specifics of their strategy. Though they are hiring, as evidence by a full-page add in Microfinance Insights. More info here.

Update: MicroCapital has more. Also see an interview on the P2P-Banking blog. And seems there site has gone live, but still beta.
